You know how I was so
super into Saints Row: The Third a
few weeks ago that Rick had to title the
recap to humor my obsession? Well, now that the IGN Entertainment wiki
guide is done (which you can find by clicking here, and it’s
damn near my best piece of work ever), I’m done with the game… and I’m not
going to touch it again for six months.
I’ve mentioned before
that the hardest part of guide writing is not the effort it takes to be
creative and entertaining while being instructive, but doing all that when you
don’t want to. And man, doing Saints Row: The Third has been time-consuming. I’ve been having to play it all day, every
day, for the last two weeks. Mostly because, in order to make the guide awesome—and
it’s getting heavy traffic on IGN, so I needed
to make it awesome—I had to take screenshots… which I neglected to do the
first time through. So, operating on orders from IGN, I had to play through the
game AGAIN as fast as humanly possible, when basically every brain cell was
screaming at me to be doing something else. (Zimos is hilarious since he speaks
only in Auto-Tune, but you can only hear the same joke so many times.)
Don’t get me wrong, I’m
not whining about the job. Hell, playing games and writing about them, for a paycheck? Ain’t no better job in
the world, guys. But it’s still a job, and I was still shooting people in
Saints Row when I really, really, just wanted to be social with my friends or,
you know, go out for tacos. So now I’m resenting the game, and I don’t want to
think about it for a long, long time.
But it’s done, and it’s
become an awesome guide, especially the part where I start
channeling my Online Onslaught writing style on IGN, which was fairly
surreal. But the next one will interest you guys too, since it’s for WWE ’12!
Custom wrestlers are made, modes have been explored, and now I just need to start
playing with Road To WrestleMania and get to writin’!
